Sinister Sangria

Sinister Sangria is a dark and delicious twist on the traditional Spanish drink, perfect for those who revel in the gothic and mysterious. This eerie concoction combines the deep, rich flavors of red wine with the sweet and tart essence of black cherry juice, enhanced by the warmth of brandy and the freshness of sliced dark fruits. Whether you’re hosting a Halloween gathering or simply enjoying a night in with a good book, Sinister Sangria sets the perfect mood. Serve it chilled, with or without a splash of soda, for a drink that’s as enticing as it is refreshing.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Red wine (approximately 750 ml) (625)
  • 1 cup Black cherry juice (130)
  • 1/2 cup Brandy (250)
  • 1 cup Sliced dark fruits (such as blackberries, plums, and dark cherries) (75)
  • 1/4 cup Soda (optional for a lighter version) (0)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fruit: Slice the dark fruits (such as blackberries, plums, and dark cherries) and set them aside.

  2. Mix the Base: In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, black cherry juice, and brandy. Stir gently to mix the liquids.

  3. Add the Fruit: Add the sliced dark fruits to the pitcher, stirring them into the mixture. The fruits will infuse the drink with their flavors as it chills.

  4. Chill: Cover the pitcher and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours. This allows the flavors to meld together, creating a rich and cohesive taste.

  5. Serve: Just before serving, add the splash of soda to the pitcher if you prefer a lighter, more effervescent sangria. Pour the sangria into glasses over ice, ensuring each glass gets some of the fruit.

  6. Garnish (Optional): For an extra gothic touch, garnish each glass with a slice of dark fruit or a sprig of mint.
