Charlie is married to a serial killer who has decided he wants to stop killing. She welcomes the change, but keeping him away from his old habits soon becomes more complicated than expected.
As Charlie tries to protect her husband and the life they have built together, she begins committing violent acts of her own. What starts as an attempt to keep him from returning to murder gradually pulls her further into the violence surrounding their relationship.
Natasha Calis stars as Charlie, alongside Brett Geddes, Dylan Taylor, Rachel Boyd, Julia Dyan, Precious Chong, and Tony Nappo. Written and directed by Jay Reid, Sick Puppy combines horror, thriller, and dark comedy around a relationship in which murder has become an accepted part of everyday life.
The film uses its serial killer premise to explore loyalty, complicity, obsession, and the increasingly blurred line between protecting someone and participating in their behaviour.
Why Sick Puppy Is on Love of Gothic
Sick Puppy falls within the darker side of horror and thriller cinema, with serial killers, murder, violent relationships, and dark comedy forming the basis of its story.
Its central relationship also deals with themes that frequently appear in darker fiction, including obsession, destructive devotion, moral corruption, and the consequences of remaining loyal to someone dangerous.
Those themes, along with its horror classification and serial killer premise, make it relevant to the type of darker entertainment collected on Love of Gothic, regardless of where individual viewers ultimately land on the film.
