Riley Flynn returns to Crockett Island after serving time in prison, coming home to a small community that has been steadily declining. His return coincides with another arrival: Father Paul, a charismatic young priest who has temporarily replaced the elderly Monsignor Pruitt at St. Patrick’s Church.
Soon, strange things begin happening on the island.
Unexplained events that appear miraculous renew the faith of many residents, and Father Paul’s arrival brings new energy to the struggling church. As the apparent miracles continue, religious enthusiasm spreads through the community. But disturbing signs begin appearing alongside them, raising questions about what is actually happening and what these miracles may require in return.
Riley remains skeptical, shaped by his own guilt and loss of faith. His childhood friend Erin Greene is rebuilding her life after returning to the island, while Sheriff Hassan faces the challenges of raising his son within a predominantly Catholic community where he remains an outsider.
Zach Gilford stars as Riley alongside Kate Siegel as Erin and Hamish Linklater as Father Paul. The ensemble also includes Samantha Sloyan as Bev Keane, Rahul Kohli as Sheriff Hassan, Henry Thomas as Ed Flynn, Kristin Lehman as Annie Flynn, Annabeth Gish as Dr. Sarah Gunning, and Robert Longstreet as Joe Collie.
Created and directed by Mike Flanagan, Midnight Mass uses supernatural horror to explore faith, guilt, grief, addiction, forgiveness, death, and the different ways people interpret religious belief. As the truth behind the island’s miracles emerges, those beliefs increasingly shape how the residents respond to what is happening around them.
The seven-episode limited series gradually transforms its isolated community as faith, fear, and the promise of something beyond death become increasingly difficult to separate.
