Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, Repo! The Genetic Opera is a rock musical set in a future where widespread organ failure has created a booming market for transplants. GeneCo provides replacement organs through financing plans, but anyone who falls behind on payments may receive a visit from a Repo Man sent to reclaim the company’s property.
The story centres on Shilo Wallace, a sheltered teenager who believes she has inherited a serious blood disorder. Her protective father, Nathan, keeps her isolated from the outside world while hiding his own connection to GeneCo. As Shilo begins questioning what she has been told, she becomes caught in the schemes of company founder Rotti Largo and his deeply dysfunctional family.
The film stars Alexa Vega, Anthony Stewart Head, Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino, Paris Hilton, Bill Moseley, Nivek Ogre, and Terrance Zdunich. Combining industrial rock, opera, science fiction, horror, and comic book imagery, it builds a colourful dystopia filled with elaborate costumes, surgical spectacle, family secrets, and a highly theatrical amount of blood.
