Tom Loftis is the mayor of Widow’s Bay, a struggling island community about 40 miles off the coast of New England. With the local economy fading, Tom is determined to turn the town into a tourist destination and create a better future for his teenage son.
There is one complication. The locals are convinced the island is cursed.
Tom dismisses their warnings as superstition and sees the town’s strange history as something that could actually help attract visitors. Widow’s Bay has no shortage of unsettling folklore, and its residents have spent generations living with stories about the island and the things that have supposedly happened there.
Then tourists finally begin arriving, and the old stories start coming true.
As increasingly strange events spread across the island, Tom is forced to reconsider the beliefs he had dismissed while trying to manage a community where folklore, local history, and genuine supernatural danger are becoming increasingly difficult to separate.
