Norman Babcock is an 11-year-old boy living in the small town of Blithe Hollow. He loves horror movies, struggles to fit in with the people around him, and has an unusual ability that makes his life considerably more complicated.
Norman can see and speak with the dead.
Ghosts are part of his everyday life, although most people assume he is making them up. His family does not understand him, classmates make fun of him, and Norman generally finds communicating with the dead easier than dealing with the living.
Then his estranged uncle Prenderghast warns him that Blithe Hollow is in danger.
According to local history, a witch placed a curse on the town centuries ago. Every year, someone from Norman’s family must perform a ritual to keep the curse contained. When Norman becomes responsible for the task and things go wrong, the dead begin rising from their graves.
With zombies wandering through town and the curse growing stronger, Norman has to uncover what really happened centuries earlier. The story Blithe Hollow has proudly repeated about its past turns out to be considerably more complicated than the local legend suggests.

Directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler, ParaNorman uses stop-motion animation to combine supernatural horror, comedy, and mystery. Beneath the zombies and ghosts, the film also explores bullying, fear, prejudice, and what can happen when a community decides someone is dangerous simply because they are different.
