Decades after surviving the Overlook Hotel, Dan Torrance is still haunted by what happened there. As an adult, he struggles with alcoholism and the lingering effects of his psychic ability, known as the shining.
Eventually, Dan finds stability in a small New Hampshire town, where he begins working at a hospice. His ability allows him to comfort dying patients in their final moments, earning him the nickname Doctor Sleep.
Dan’s life changes when he forms a psychic connection with Abra Stone, a young girl whose shining is extraordinarily powerful. Her abilities attract the attention of the True Knot, a travelling group that feeds on the psychic energy released by children who possess the shining.
When Abra becomes their next target, Dan is drawn into a confrontation with the True Knot and their leader, Rose the Hat. Protecting Abra also forces him to confront his own past and the legacy of the Overlook Hotel.
