Five years after the Mercedes Massacre, Brady Hartsfield remains confined to a traumatic brain injury clinic. His doctors believe he has little chance of meaningful recovery, but behind his seemingly unresponsive exterior, Brady is awake and has developed dangerous new abilities.
Retired detective Bill Hodges now runs an investigation agency with Holly Gibney, the woman responsible for stopping Brady’s original attack. When Bill and Holly are called to investigate a murder-suicide connected to the Mercedes Massacre, they begin to suspect that Brady may still be capable of reaching his victims.
As similar deaths emerge, Bill and Holly discover that Brady has found a way to influence people without leaving his hospital room. His plans soon threaten Bill, Holly, Jerome Robinson, and Jerome’s younger sister, Barbara.
