Different Seasons brings together four Stephen King novellas that explore imprisonment, corruption, friendship, mortality, and the darker sides of human nature.
In “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption,” a man convicted of murder faces decades in prison while holding onto the possibility of freedom. “Apt Pupil” follows a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers that an elderly man living nearby is hiding a horrifying past, beginning a relationship that becomes increasingly dangerous for them both.
“The Body” follows four young friends who set out through the Maine woods in search of the body of a missing boy. What begins as an adventure becomes a confrontation with death, friendship, and the end of childhood. “The Breathing Method” takes place within a mysterious private club, where a doctor tells the remarkable story of a woman determined to give birth despite extraordinary circumstances.
Together, the four stories show a side of King’s fiction where much of the darkness comes from human choices, relationships, and mortality rather than supernatural monsters.
