Orgy is an American industrial rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1997. Known for combining heavy guitars, electronic production, synths, and a sleek glam-influenced image, the band became part of the wave of alternative and industrial music that broke into the mainstream during the late 1990s.
The band gained early attention after signing with Korn’s Elementree Records and joining the inaugural Family Values Tour in 1998. Their debut album, Candyass, arrived the same year and introduced their mix of industrial rock, electronic music, alternative metal, and glam influences to a wider audience.
Orgy’s best-known track is their cover of New Order’s “Blue Monday.” Their heavier, electronic interpretation became a major alternative hit and remains closely associated with the band. Candyass also produced tracks such as “Stitches,” further establishing the combination of distorted guitars, programmed sounds, and melodic vocals that defined their early work.
Their second album, Vapor Transmission, followed in 2000 and pushed the futuristic side of their sound further. Punk Statik Paranoia arrived in 2004 before the band entered an extended period without a new studio album, although Orgy continued to perform and later released new material through singles and EPs.
Visually, Orgy stood apart from many of their late-90s contemporaries. Glam fashion, makeup, cyberpunk aesthetics, and an androgynous presentation accompanied music that already blurred the boundaries between rock, metal, and electronic influences.
That combination has given Orgy a lasting place within industrial and alternative music. Their sound captures a particular moment when heavy guitars, club-friendly electronics, glam aesthetics, and the emerging cyber culture of the late 1990s were colliding in some very interesting ways.
