Buffy Summers arrives in Sunnydale hoping for a fresh start. She would particularly like that fresh start to involve normal teenage problems rather than vampires, demons, and the responsibility of preventing the occasional apocalypse.
Unfortunately, Buffy is the Slayer.
In every generation, one girl is chosen and given the strength and abilities needed to fight vampires, demons, and other supernatural threats. Buffy would prefer to have friends, date, survive high school, and maintain some resemblance of an ordinary life, but Sunnydale happens to sit directly above a Hellmouth, making normality somewhat difficult to maintain.
With the help of her Watcher, Rupert Giles, and her friends Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris, Buffy begins fighting the supernatural forces drawn to Sunnydale. Over time, the group expands as allies, witches, vampires, other Slayers, and assorted supernatural beings become part of their lives.
Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as Buffy, alongside Alyson Hannigan as Willow, Nicholas Brendon as Xander, and Anthony Head as Giles. The cast also includes David Boreanaz as Angel, James Marsters as Spike, Charisma Carpenter as Cordelia, Seth Green as Oz, Amber Benson as Tara, Emma Caulfield as Anya, and Eliza Dushku as Faith.
Across seven seasons, the series moves well beyond its original monster-of-the-week structure. Buffy and her friends grow from teenagers into adults while dealing with relationships, grief, identity, responsibility, family, death, and the consequences of living in a world where supernatural danger is part of everyday life.
The mythology expands with them. Vampires and demons remain central, but the series also explores witchcraft, ghosts, werewolves, curses, alternate dimensions, resurrection, ancient prophecies, gods, and repeated threats to the end of the world.
